Associates Mentoring Program

Why this Program?
For girls, mentorship opportunities with professional women provide one of the most successful methods of ensuring career exploration and futures thinking. With this in mind, Girls Inc. of Northwest Oregon created the Associates Mentoring Program, which offers collective workplace mentoring for girls during the workday. Open to girls who attended our School-based and Community-based programs, the Associates Mentoring Program helps girls to develop the communication and problem-solving skills necessary for successful teamwork that is applicable in business, home and at school.

About the Program
The Associates Mentoring Program provides the opportunity for a team of professionals from a single business to collectively mentor a group of girls primarily in the workplace. Mentors and their girls meet at the company worksite twice a month for ninety minutes to work together on their Challenge—a project or product relevant to girls and related to the work of the company. Girls also receive individual mentoring once a month from one of the women, participate in Girls Inc. events, and have occasional recreational or service-oriented outings with their mentors centered on healthy fun.

In addition to the exceptional hands-on experience, girls participating in the Girls Inc. Associates Mentoring Program may choose to take advantage of an outstanding opportunity to earn a half credit towards the Pathway Portfolio during their mentorship. There are 4 Career-Related Learning Standards that they will develop and track during their mentorship: Teamwork, Communication, Personal Management, and Problem Solving. At the end of the mentorship there is a self-evaluation and reflection, as well as, a supervisor evaluation. Students will also create a resume. This opportunity is a great incentive for students to choose the Associates Mentoring Program to earn credit towards their Pathway Portfolio. It’s the perfect place to develop the four career-related learning standards in preparation for real world success!
